    Personal Sales Help Mentorship

Two Spots Still Open… I still have room for two more writers. And you can start now or next year, either is fine. Here is why I am going to do this. To put it bluntly, many writers are simply creating stories that won’t sell for one reason or another, often having nothing to do with craft. Sometimes learning this stuff early helps before you get to twenty or more major titles published, but often a writer gets to that discoverability threshold of 20 books and still does not see an increase in sales. That means something is off in the product. (At that point, the story is a product.)…

Still Room In the Personal Sales Help Mentorship

Only For a Few Writers… Bringing this back here because I still have room for two more writers. And you can start now or next year, either is fine. Here is why I am going to do this. To put it bluntly, many writers are simply creating stories that won’t sell for one reason or another, often having nothing to do with craft. Baker and Taylor Going Out of Business…

No Real Surprise… B&T at one point in time was the main distributor to bookstores. Maybe the largest book distributor at times. It was founded in the 1800s, actually. Over the last fifty years it morphed into different forms and with different corporate owners too stupid to detail out here. And parts of the company were sold off. (Always a good plan.) When indie publishing with Amazon fired up, “extended distribution” went to B&T and for a time all indie books had a special code that basically kept bookstores from buying indie books. Can I say “shortsighted on B&T’s part. But at that point their main customers were the big…

Last Day for Early Bird Discount!!!

FALL INDIE WRITING FESTIVAL… Online October 20th through November 14th Going to put this basic information here again since we still have more than enough spots open. We will have a minimum of five videos a day, often over ten when we do special focus things. There will be between 150 and 200 learning videos in the four weeks you can do on your own time. No assignments at all. But staying up with the videos as they go along also allows you to ask questions, which is an important part of this. Kris and I will answer the questions either in an email if personal, or in a video…

    Takes Balance in Indie Publishing…

Indie Takes Knowing Major and Minor Skills… Back in traditional publishing days, hundreds of thousands of writers worked to get past the gate keepers and get their books bought and into print. A few out of those thousands actually made it for a ton of varied reasons.  And so few out of those who made it actually had careers longer than a few books. Reasons… Many were just not good storytellers, rewrote everything into mush, and had no voice, didn’t understand the entire business process of submission, or more than likely, just did not have the drive to keep going and keep learning and working to get better. They claimed…

    FALL INDIE WRITING FESTIVAL…

FALL INDIE WRITING FESTIVAL… Online October 20th through November 14th Since we did the last master class back six or seven years ago, we have been trying to come up with a way to bring everything in indie publishing and writing together. And have it all presented in a way that makes sense. With our regular workshops and classes and such, there are so many gaps of large areas we are missing that we want to cover. Really important gaps to indie writers and publishers. So this last summer in our INDIE WRITING CAMP, we did our best in an orderly fashion that we hoped helped writers of all levels…

My Attitude Toward Helping With Copyright…

I Am Not a Lawyer… And would never give legal advice. But I am a long-term professional fiction writer of over 50 years and I know copyright because (duh) that is how I make all my money. So when I say something to inform about copyright, I say what I say not as a lawyer, but in the interest of helping writers learn and avoid issues. A super nice person who has forgotten more of the legal fine details of copyrght that I know often responds to my posts. I need to be clear here. Court cases and attorneys are cheap when you need their help to consult or look…
