Month 2, Day 2 of this Writing in Public challenge.
Day twelve of the novel Thunder Mountain.
Actually did get to bed last night fairly early, meaning around 4:30 a.m. Rolled out around 2 p.m., so got more than enough sleep for the first time in a few days.
Did some e-mail, then headed to WMG Publishing offices to work on workshops and start getting the first issue of Smith’s Monthly ready. Left there around 6 p.m. and came home, did the standard nap and dinner and watched news, did the dishes, then got into my office here around 8:30 p.m.
I worked on workshop stuff for a time, then spent about an hour writing a forward for Fiction River Special Edition: Crime. Kris is the editor, but since that will be the last volume in the first year, she wanted me to do a forward about it being Fiction River’s first birthday. (That issue comes out in March 2014.) That forward turned out to be only about 500 words or so, but all done and turned in.
I took a break to watch some television and then finally got to my writing computer by 1:30 a.m. Not exactly the day I was hoping for yesterday, but I think tomorrow might turn out to be the bigger day on the fiction writing. I might even make a run at finishing the novel.
Anyway, in three sessions with short breaks between them, I managed 3,100 words on the novel. I know where it is going now and am just racing to get there, although I wrote into a plot twist tonight that I wasn’t expecting. So part of me thinks he knows where this is going, but my subconscious is just ripping along and I’m holding on for the ride.
And I’ve now taken the “A Romance” off the title since this sort of went away from being a romance somewhere around 40,000 words. (grin) We’ll see how it ends up, but it is clearly a science fiction time travel novel right now just called Thunder Mountain.
