Month 2, Day 20 of this Writing in Public challenge.
Day One of the new novel called Against Time.
Rolled out a little after 2 p.m. and managed to get to the snail mail and to the bank and to WMG Publishing by 4:30 p.m.
Allyson checked over what I had done on the layout of Smith’s Monthly #1 and liked it. Always great to get another designer’s eye on the work when designing something. I hope to keep working on it over the weekend and have that first issue ready to get a proof copy on Monday.
I grabbed a quick bite of lunch and stayed at WMG until about 5:30 pm, then headed home. I wanted to get the novel started.
So into my writing office I went and managed to get an hour at getting the book started, which amounted to almost exactly 400 words in that hour before me and Walter headed for the basement for a nap.
Back upstairs after dinner and news, checked e-mail, then headed for the WMG Offices around 9:00 p.m. I needed to work on workshop stuff.
Allyson was still working in her office when I got there, but she left shortly after that, but then Jerimy showed up and worked for a while. He left about 10:30 and about ten minutes later Zach showed up because he had a few hours of work to do he hadn’t got done earlier.
And I thought I was the only person working on a Friday night in publishing. (grin)
I left the WMG offices just before midnight and got home and watched some television, then made it up to my writing office by 1 a.m. and back to the novel.
The next session I managed in an hour about 700 words. I took a quick break, then had three good sessions of just under 40 minutes each with a five minute break between them, managing to end the night with 4,050 words on the novel. And my characters started and developed some. (Actually, 4,037 words, but I round to the nearest 50 on all this stuff.)
So five sessions, 4,050 words. Total time spent today on the novel… about four hours. Fantastic speed for me early on in a book.
Again, I have ZERO idea where this novel is going. And I have two major characters right now, one in orbit, one in a cave. I hope they come together pretty darned soon. (grin)
Totals for the novel Against Time:
Day One…. 4,050 words. Running total… 4,050 words
