Writing in Public: Month 5, Day 31

Month 5, Day 31 of this Writing in Public challenge.

Day 12 of the novel Kill Button: A Cold Poker Gang Novel.

“Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!”

Those are the words you hear every time I stand up from my computer tonight. The reason is all the physical labor I did today. And not once did I drop something on my toe. (For a change.)

Rolled out around noon and got to the shop where I was buying the cabinets and counters by 1 p.m.  The movers I had hired were there already and with me helping a little, we got their truck completely full. One of the countertops is 12 feet long and very wide.

I got the entire truck-load for $50.00. The shop just needed them out of the way.

We put about twenty feet of counter and cabinets into the new area at WMG I rented last month, then we took the other two monsters upstairs. But first I had to have the movers help me move stuff around before we could get in those two big counters.

— So we moved four shelving unites from upstairs in a loft area into my old office.

— We moved five shelving unites from my new office downstairs upstairs to the lounge area.

— We moved about forty boxes of books from the warehouse into the dining area for short-time keeping.

—We moved another thirty boxes of books from yet another area of the warehouse into the main workshop room.

— And from the workshop area we moved about twenty other boxes of books to my office downstairs.

Then we moved in the two monster counters.

By 2:30 p.m. I was hurting and sweating. But wow did we get a lot done in very short time. And the new WMG shipping area is fantastic. A little work on lights and it will be all ready to go for the new year.

Then at 3 p.m. I went off to the snail mail and then the banks and back to WMG Publishing for a time. I talked with another writer who was there about web sites and such. WMG has a great web site at the moment for what we needed to get up and going. Jerimy has done a fantastic job with it.  But to jump to the next level as a publisher, we need a change to help buyers of books and bookstores find what we are doing. So in a month or you’ll see some changes on the WMG site. Doing a revamp is never easy. But once we get through the bumps, it will be great.

I’m thinking of using the same new theme here, but I want to learn it first at WMG before I mess with anything too much here. But you will see some slow changes over the next few months here on this site as well.

Home by 6 p.m. to do some e-mail, then down to nap with the white cat. I ended up watching the end of the Blazer’s game instead. So no nap for me, but Walter napped just fine. Basketball it seems, doesn’t interest him much. Picture of Walter below in the living room taken by Kris this afternoon while I was up moving things.

Dinner and dishes and then back up to the WMG offices by 8 p.m.

I worked up there on formatting Smith’s Monthly #4 and did a cover for one of the stories in it. A story I wrote last month, or earlier this month. Can’t remember.  I finally headed home by about 10:30 p.m.

I then went to work on doing some bookkeeping year-end stuff and then at 11:45 Kris and I went downstairs to watch the recording of the ball dropping in Times Square. We came back up around 1 a.m. and talked about new year stuff for a time, then I came back in here and finished up some e-mail and by 2:45 a.m., I was ready to get at the writing to make sure I got the new year off on the right track..

I ended up doing more than I planned because this book is actually flowing pretty well now. I still have no idea where I am going, but the road is fun to walk. A very twisty mystery.

I did 800 words in about 30 minutes, took a two minute break, did another 1,100 words in 50 minutes, another two minute break, then another 700 words in another 30 minutes. 2,600 words on the novel. More than I expected to get done.

But every time I stood up to take a break, Walter would wake up and look at me because I said, “Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.”

He’s a very judgmental cat at times.
