I’m a HUGE Twilight Zone fan so I’ll definitely be picking this up and I’ll keep an eye out for your story! Thanks for this post and the ever so helpful Killing the Sacred Cows series. It’s been invaluable.
Probably picking this one up tomorrow, I loved the Twillight Zone as a kid and the Outer Limits. And, now that you mention it, Dean, I can definitely see the influences on your stories. Though I really have no idea where the Poker Boy stories come from.
I’ve played professional poker at times over the years. Poker Boy came out of those days combined with my writing of comics and reading comics. Always figured there needed to be a super hero of poker, so developed the entire world of the gambling gods and away it went.
First Poker Boy novel has made the rounds and gotten great fun rejections, mostly with the editors laughing but having no idea how they would market such a thing, but turns out it will be out this fall in both trade paper and electronic form and I will serialize it here as well. It’s called Poker Boy vs. the Slots of Saturn. Sort of the origin story of Poker Boy and his team, including Front Desk Girl and Screamer and Stan, the God of Poker.
Just to be clear, I really like The Poker Boy stories, I meant to put a grin on the end of the last post but somehow when I hit submit comment it vanished. So it’s definitely cool to hear about the first novel coming out.
My imagination has a mainline into the Twilight Zone.
I just ordered both TZ volumes, plus Kris’s Recovering Apollo 8.
