Interesting post by Lindsay Buroker about making a living with her indie publishing and how others are doing the same. And she has some interesting points about the common factors among those she knows about making a living. Worth the quick read.

What I found interesting in the article, was a repeat of what you have been saying for years.
Don’t waste time marketing, build a backlist, keep writing, put fresh stories up, and let the readers discover you. Oh, and tell a good story, get a good cover, write a good blurb.
Hi Dean, thanks for posting this — good stuff. Regards.
That was really nice of her to share. I’m always up to absorb any info that indie authors are willing to share.
It’s interesting that all indie authors say and even some of my favorite traditional authors have said, the best thing you can do it is write the next book. That’s what readers want more than anything.
Dean,
I’ve been reading your site for a while, but this is the first time I’ve posted a comment. Thanks for sharing this blog from Lindsay. Someone compared my writing to hers recently, so this is the second time I’ve heard of her.
And thanks for promoting self publishing. I’ve published four books so far with more on the way.
Thanks again,
Darrell.
I must chime also and say thank you for posting that. Although I sometimes feel that itch that I could be doing something to market my work, I remember you and Kris’s years of experience offered so generously.
It may be a brand new world in publishing, but I don’t believe the rules and value of experience have changed. I needed this article.
Thank you.
Hi Dean,
What do you think of her free first novel in a series? It’s only anecdotal evidence but she says that she’s experienced a boost in sales for the rest. You’ve been very vehement about not selling at 99 cents or giving your fiction away. Does this change your thinking at all?
Greg, no opinion change. Whatever she did, worked for her, but my sense it was her great writing that made her sales, not her price tricks.
Thank you for mentioning my post, Dean, and thank you for checking it out, folks!
Thanks for passing this along. Good stuff. Makes me hopeful.
