Forbes Talks With Mark Coker

Kris mentions this in her wonderful article this morning, but I wanted to give you a link because of the chart in this article on the second page. It’s a stunner and a great article and interview with Mark. Balanced in many ways, which surprised me.

Great article. I can’t wait to see the new vendors he gets on board!

  2. Ty Johnston says:

I’m also interested in the new vendors, but I’m also wondering how the changes with Kobo will affect Smashwords.

    • Ramon Terrell says:

My guess is that most people (myself included) will stay on with smashwords, but opt out of the kobo option and go straight to kobo. The negative effect will be balanced when they bring on the new vendors.

      • dwsmith says:

We’re waiting and seeing the options and the bugs in the new system, which there will be many of both. I doubt we will spend the time to move the 240 titles we already have going to Kobo through Smashwords, just as we never moved the 80 some we have on Smashwords going to B&N. But if the new system is mostly bug free and doesn’t take much extra to do, we might go there with future books. Jury is out. But we will still use Smashwords. Even though the payment is very, very slow.

        • Ramon Terrell says:

Yeah, I’m definitely planning to wait a while for them to identify and fix the bugs. And since I’m pretty smalltime, having only five books (six by july) in my monstrous inventory of work, *grin* it’ll be easy for me to move them over.

Wow, that article on Coker is really interesting, and it really paints him in an entrepreneurial light. He found a need and filled it, and he’s continuing to work on improving it.
