Finally got them in from CreateSpace. (I was late ordering them because just forgot to hit purchase when I had them in the shopping cart. I claim the POD workshop caused my stupidity.)
Again in September there were eight of them and I hope to have that many again in October as well as starting to put more up here. But more than likely it will be November before the entire process really fires up and everyone here gets to start reading a ton of new stories. In three months I have put up 22 of these books. The shelf is looking pretty cool I have to say.
I tested a lower page count limit on one of these and discovered that a story 2,400 words long can be put into paper without adding in anything I don’t have in the other books. But that hit the lower 24 page limit for CreateSpace. And everyone who buys one of the paper also gets a free electronic copy as well.
Again, great fun. And strangely enough, they are selling. Who knew.
Subscribers, they will be headed your way by Priority Mail tomorrow (Monday). Sure sorry for the delay.

They look fabulous! I still haven’t dragged my procrastinating butt over to createspace – I think it’s mostly the cover redesign issue that has me dragging my feet. (Oh, and new stuff to write.)
Those books look really nice. Are you going to put up a photo of all the books you have done so far on a bookshelf?
I’ll do that next month, Thomas. Thanks!
Every time you post more pictures of your cute little books I get an infuriating itch in my fingers to stop wasting years sending my stories to magazines and start self publishing. But must… resist… For now.
These look fantastic, Dean! How fun. Was wondering if you would normally put these on extended distribution at Createspace. Or is that not viable at these shorter lengths? Just curious. Thx and kudos once again!
Nope, extended distribution doesn’t work because I have them priced at $4.99. ($2.99 electronic) I would have to go to $6.99 for the extended to work, plus I don’t want to pay the $25 per book. Right now they are free to do.
I will be putting them up on my web site and on WMG Publishing web site for sale signed. But not there yet for varied reasons.
THAT’S your secret! I was trying to get a short set up in CreateSpace. It’s 12,000 words; and no matter what I tried, I couldn’t get it down below $5.99 without losing money on extended distribution. (Well, I could do a middle ground but I definitely lost money at $4.99.) I thought somewhere you had said that extended distribution was a “must do”. Is that only for longer works? Or am I misremembering?
I see no reason to go to extended distribution on short fiction stand-alone books. I can’t see them making back the $25.00 fee in any reasonable fashion. I’ll sell them on my web site and on Amazon and such places. The math just does not work on anything under $6.99 or $7.99 and for a short story, that’s just silly. It’s silly enough at $4.99 for a paper edition of a short story. (Although, they do get the electronic edition as well with that.) I do these for other reasons.
Honestly, the reason I’m doing these is that I’m a paper person and I got tired of writing stories and having them vanish in electrons. I wasn’t even printing out a paper copy. So these are for me.
Wow. These look really really nice, Dean. I think you’ve got a great idea on your hands here. Kudos.
