Day 16 of this Writing in Public challenge.
Still not picking up much speed yet on the writing side. Feels like I am still clearing off a ton of extra stuff. Sigh…
Started off the day by crawling out around 1pm after getting a full night’s sleep, something I won’t get tonight I’m afraid.
I did e-mail, then headed off to errands and WMG Publishing and worked on book covers and workshop stuff until around 6 pm. Then back home for more e-mail, a nap, dinner, and then back to WMG offices until 10 pm.
I made it home with the idea of just going to work on writing, but got distracted by a few things, then watched some television, and really didn’t get started until around 1 am.
In two sessions I finished the Pilgrim Hugh Incident short story I had started the other night. It’s called “The Case of the Dog-Bit Arm” and runs just over 3,000 words. I was really, really stuck on it when I sat down because, to be honest, the Pilgrim Hugh stories I write are silly, short crime stories. And I had a crime, just no solution, so I just kept typing and suddenly the silly solution came through my fingers and I wrapped it up.
Now it’s 2:30 and I’m doing this and I need to rest because I have to be up at 9:30 tomorrow morning and signing books at a book fair for a great local bookstore at 10:30. This is just about the only signing I do every year. Realize, 9:30 in the morning is 3 plus hours at least before I normally get up. Middle of the night, in other words, for me.
