Challenge,  On Writing,  publishing,  Smiths Monthly

A New Day

THANK YOU FOR THE KIND COMMENTS…

I got a lot of wonderful comments, both on last night’s post about finishing four books in one month, and privately. Thank you all

I forgot to mention one thing in last night’s post. All four of the books were final draft.

I will not rewrite them.

I did not write sloppy. Three books have been read by Kris so far and she loves them. All four will be going into WMG Publishing over the next week as I put together the issues of Smith’s Monthly they go into.

And tonight I started a new novel called The End of Time: A Seeders Universe Novel. I will track words here starting tomorrow or so, after Allyson does me a cover. (grin)

Yup, still went to the writing computer and got about 2,000 words done. Felt like I didn’t do anything. (grin)

After I finish that I think I will do yet another Cold Poker Gang novel. Almost started one tonight, actually, because I spent some time this afternoon on titles for the Cold Poker Gang novels. But then decided to give myself a breather between them.

So just keeping on, although I have a bunch of stuff I am behind on, like the challenge reading I will spend time on this coming week and get caught up. And corporation taxes need to get into the accountant.

And tonight I didn’t even get to writing until after 3 a.m. I had so much other stuff to do. I was at WMG publishing from 11:30 p.m. until 1 a.m., doing workshop stuff. Forgot it was Tuesday. Thought it was Monday. Oops. (grin).

I AM ON THECREATIVEPENN PODCAST!

Well folks, the wonderful Joanna Penn from Great Britain interviewed me about the Magic Bakery and breaking down writing myths. (You know, the things you have to get rid of before you could ever write four books in a month.)

For those of you who do not know, Joanna does one of the most important podcasts for indie writers. I was honored she asked me back.

And Joanna will be one of the week-long instructors at the Master Class in October here on the coast. That is going to be wonderful. (Write me if interested. Three writers have had to drop due to health and stuff, so there are a few openings at the moment.)

So if you want to watch me talk about writing and myths and copyright, standing up in Kris’s internet office, have a look.

You can listen here:

or watch me here:

Thanks, Joanna!!

Patreon Supporters…

You should have one issue of Smith’s Monthly yesterday. I will put up another tomorrow. And a third on Monday.

Smith’s Monthly Subscribers, you will get your electronic editions about on the same schedule.  Paper copies will lag behind a few weeks.

Four more issues being turned in to WMG and I am still working to have #48 out by October, so I will be back on time. Having fun giving it a try. (grin)

PULPHOUSE MAGAZINE UPDATE…

Still on track just fine. I am behind getting word to authors as to which issues they will be in, but should have that solved by the middle or so of the month.

That magazine is going to be so much fun. I am amazingly excited, to be honest.

And we are going to be doing some cool stuff with the web site for the magazine. Light Speed Magazine, Clarkesworld Magazine kind of stuff.

And we hope to do a Kickstarter for it around the end of this month. Stay tuned.

And remember, if you had a subscription to the old incarnation of Pulphouse, just let us know and we will honor it.

So, in the rush to get the writing side done, I noticed that the reports of the walking/running part of your challenge got pushed back a bit. How’s the progress on that part of things going? I know that was taking an increasing amount of the limited time you had, but I hope that you can still achieve your goal for later in the year.

JR, ramping that back up here in August. Got about two weeks of intense work to do, then things ease and the walking/running ramp into place. Thanks for asking.

Dean, Congrats! You wrote five books in a month. Four novels + your writing schedule. Have you considered publishing your writing schedule for last month as a nonfiction book. Something like “How to write four novels in a month.” It may not be a bad idea. What do you say?

Already planning on doing that. I will do a first couple of chapters about the process, getting ready, myths, and that sort of thing. Then I will have a section called Book #1… I will talk about how I came up with Book #1. Then for each day the stuff about the day and the writing. Then an epilog for the section, then next Section Book #2 and so on, with a wrap up at the end of the book.

So about five thousand more words to finish that book. Should be a fun one. So yes, I wrote five books in one month.
