Novel Two: Day Seven

Not Done Yet…

(As a reminder, the overall monthly challenge is to write four novels and gain distance every week on my step count, starting the first week at an average of 11,000 steps per day.)

The Day Went Like This…

I made it to the WMG offices just at 3 p.m. after doing an hour of e-mail. I worked there, very quiet for a Friday, until 5 p.m. on workshops. Then headed out with Matt to walk to a restaurant about a mile away to meet some other professional writers coming into town for dinner.

Fun dinner and then walked back to WMG. I did not get my 12,000 steps, but got over 10,000 so I’ll take it.

At 8 p.m. a bunch more professional writers showed up and we had a great discussion for three hours about business and writing. We do these Friday nights once every six to eight weeks and they are always amazing.

Home by 11:30, took a nap, did more e-mail and then got going on the book around 12:30 a.m.

Wrote 900 words by 1:30 a.m. and took a break to watch some television.

Then from 2:30 a.m. until 3:30 a.m. I managed 1,300 words.

I was very low on energy tonight because of all the stuff from the day, but at least getting some words done.

3:30 a.m. until 4:30 a.m. I did another 1,100 words and called it a night.

If I have a great night tomorrow, I might finish the thing and then try to figure out what the third novel will be.

And note that this week, the last seven days, I worked 42.5 hours at my day job.

3,300 words in 3 sessions.

Dean, is there a time to use first person over third person? Advantages or disadvantages? I’ve seen James Patterson combine both in his books sometimes.

Nope, no rules, no guidelines, nothing. I also, in some books like Dead Money: A Poker Thriller, use both first and third as a device.
