    First 5K In the Books…

Scary Slow But I Finished… And no, I did not run. I honestly didn’t even walk fast. I just walked. Felt strange in a couple of places. I usually start up at the beginning of the pack, but this time I waited until most had started and then took off. Secondly, I was far, far from last in the 5K. I figured I would be. Had a great lunch with Kris, then we hung our medals and then I took an afternoon-long nap since I am now sleeping again on the bed after almost seven weeks of trying to sleep sitting up. So back to doing full 5K distances. Going…

    We Went Running (and Walking)

The Zombie Run… Great fun every year. Lots of kids and parents dressed up, and this year a new course which after I got past grumping at all the hills I had to admit was better. I still have a very sore foot, so this was going to be a 5K walk for me. And I was a long ways from finishing last. Kris ran the entire way and there were a lot of hills do I am impressed. Then we had a great dinner afterward. So a fun evening. Lot of pictures below and Kris will have more on her Facebook page tomorrow. 6

    First Run of the Year…

Yes, Kris Beat Me… I got up over five hours ahead of when I normally get up, so that was fun (not). But this year the temperature was perfect. And we were joined by Ron and Lisa Collins and Bridget Collins. And I did more running than I expected to do after my failed summer of getting in shape. I managed about a quarter of a mile straight running, then ran a block and walked a block. I got a distance ahead of Kris, but she caught me just after the two mile mark. I ran another block and got back ahead of her, then she caught me for good…

    First Run In 7 Hours…

The First 5K Run of the Season… So I will be getting up five hours ahead of my normal time. Talk about jet lag. Yikes. This run, the Vegas Strong 5K, starts down on Fremont Street,  goes up and down Las Vegas Blvd in the downtown area. A couple thousand people run it in honor of the horrid shooting here on October 1st 6 years ago. This is the run I was aiming at starting back in June. I watched my calories and tried to increase milage, all without success. I lost no weight at all and I am not in good shape because of foot injuries and just flat…

    Moral Rights

A Friend Reminded Me… That I had not yet talked about moral rights in the Bite-Sized Copyright class. He did not intend to, just sent me a great moral rights topic  letter., So I just finished recording that for Monday morning. Basics, but considering most writers don’t even understand copyright or licensing, I had to keep it basic. And nope, will not explain it here. Google is your friend for the basics. It is also in the Copyright Handbook which you should own. Keeping it short this Friday night because after three full days now of my new exercise routine, I am beat up. Tonight I did 4 miles around…

    Started Another Streak

I Have a Monster Streak Going… That is the one I wrote about blogging every night here for over 11 straight years without a miss. So I know how to do a streak successfully. And over the years I have started a lot of streaks and challenges for myself. Some are writing streaks like a short story a day for over a hundred days that I did in 2022. That was fun. And I have started a ton of streaks that just went nowhere for one reason or another. Mostly I gave them no power, or they had no end goal. I think a solid goal is maybe the most…

A Really Fun and Great Thing…

Writer David H. Hendrickson Runs for A Great Cause… Award-winning mystery writer and regular contributor to Pulphouse Fiction Magazine, David H. Hendrickson has decided to run the New York City Marathon in early November. Now some of you might remember that in my last half-marathon in February here in Vegas, Dave had already finished and because I was having back issues, came back for me and helped me get through the finish line, to a medical tent, and then to the car. Dave is amazing and he just completed a Half Iron Man race. That just hurts my head. Dave is running the full New York Marathon and he is…

    Exercise and Weight Challenge

I Started July 1st… So today, Saturday July 15th, is the start of the third week. Time to check in with myself and reset some. My overall goal was to lose 20 pounds by October 1st. And be back running solidly most if not all of a 5K. I had been stuck on this weight for most of two years, and not willing to make the drastic changes it took to move off it, both in food and exercise. What I needed was to do both. So switched my diet to healthy stuff only (fruits, veggies, protein), dropped drinking diet drinks of any kind, drank a lot of water, and…

    A Fun Run and Updates

6 AM is Stupidly Early… Especially when you go to bed at 2 AM. It is still dark at 6 AM. And yet off we went to be at a park before 7 on the other side of town for a charity run that honors Prince. Now I did some running early on in the 5K and then just said, “Nope.” Walked the rest of the way. But we had a wonderful breakfast afterward at a restaurant we almost never get to because it is so far from our place. And I got my remaining four hours of sleep after I got home. The Case Card Kickstarter campaign is doing…

    The Promised Running Post

I Finished… It was not pretty, but I finished and that is all that counts. A number of days back I did a post about finishing the 5K on Saturday in cold and wind and stunning amounts of rain. What I didn’t mention that was when I got home after a fun dinner with Lisa and Ron Collins and Brenda and Dave Hendrickson, four hours had gone by and when I took my shoes off, there was a puddle on the floor and my socks were soaking wet. And worse yet, my feet looked like prunes and all my carefully built-up protection from blisters was gone. Now, I am stunningly…
