Interesting Comments and Other Business

Comments Were Great on the Last Two Posts…

Had some great experience stories and only a couple writers trying to rationalize their way of doing things. Some good discussion and ideas, so might be worth checking out the comments. And thank you, everyone, who did comment in public or wrote me a letter. Very much appreciated and fun.

Amazing Writing Bundle About to End!!!

This is a bundle that I would get something out of every book. And I have already recommended a few of them here before. And don’t miss Kris’s brand new book Creating Your Author Brand.

Plus you get Heinlein’s Rules lecture, worth $75.00. Plus Steven Barnes offers a course as well.

This is a stunner of a writing bundle. And for a stunningly cheap price. And it ends shortly, like in a day or so. Don’t miss it.

Special Workshop Deal

We are about to end the special deal we were offering. A couple more days is all.  Write me if interested. The deal is if you pay for four Vegas workshops (that you can take at any time over the next four years), you get a free Dean and Kris show or two free online workshops. ($600 value.) And yes, if you have already paid for one, it counts as one of the four.

REFUND POLICY…

A number of people have asked about our refund policy if you pay ahead for Vegas Workshops. If you can’t make it for any reason up to one month ahead of the workshop, you get a full refund, no questions asked. Or you can transfer the money to another workshop. If within one month of the workshop the fee is only transferable to another workshop.

Of all the new workshops we announced, the Mystery workshop is about half full already, meaning only seven spots left.

There is still room in this fall’s Master Business Class.

ROOM CODES TO GO OUT THIS WEEK FOR THE MASTER CLASS AND ANTHOLOGY WORKSHOP TO THOSE WHO HAVE PAID.

Hey, if we’ve already bought the lecture on Heinlein’s rules, would it be possible to sub one of the other ones– like Master Plot Formula, or Endings?

I read the last two posts and all the comments. It was really great. Thank you!

So, I read the five rules book and your writing into the dark book. I read the last two posts and all the comments. It was really great. Thank you!

So, I read the five rules book and your writing into the dark book. I think I finally got my head wrapped around writing into the dark and not worrying about the ending.

So my next question would be how do you choose which story to write when you have several in mind?

Do you ever sit down and think I’m going to write a cold poker gang story or tonight I’m going to write a science-fiction story?

How does that process of choosing the next story to start writing work for you?

Thanks in advance and warm regards!

      Dave,

I seldom do. I just grab a title that interests me and start typing and the character or characters show up tell me if I am writing in one of my series or if I am doing a standalone story or book. In other words, I just trust my creative voice to figure out what it is the most excited about and I follow along. More than likely not the answer you were looking for. (grin)

Thanks for the answer Dean! That’s exactly what I wanted to know. Not sure why my first paragraph repeated three times they are but I guess you understood what I meant… Ha ha ha!

With me, I choose stories sometimes on what I want to learn. I could have written a forth and fifth book in my science fiction series. But I also need to branch out into other genres besides spec fiction. So I went for a mystery.

      • dwsmith

Honestly, Linda, I have done that a few times as well. Sort of a “never tried that before, so why not” kind of choice.
