Online Workshops Update

All Kinds of Stuff Going On…

First off, since no one was signed up in June for the Weekender Pop-up Workshops, we have cancelled those. However, the entire group of them, plus two more will return in the fall, after the time of great forgetting.

The Indie Game workshop turned out to be a stunner and great fun. I sure had a blast looking at a ton of writer pen name careers over ten years, seeing all sorts of patterns.

Of course, the Pop-Up Workshops will remain available to all of the Lifetime Workshop subscribers. You folks can take them at any time you want.

Insider’s Guide Webinar workshops.

The first week and first webinar sessions for the Insider’s Guide workshops went well from my side, at least. Serial Fiction and Writing Detective Fiction. Both workshops will remain open for a few more days on Teachable before I shut them off to new sign-ups.

Again, Lifetime Workshop subscribers will always be able to get to the videos, but after three more weeks the webinar part will be done. And no, they were not recorded, or will they ever be.

Might do more of these in the fall or winter. We shall see.

Lifetime Workshop Subscription

Lifetime Workshop subscribers can take any workshop they want at any time at their own pace. And turn in assignments when they want. The regular workshops on the lifetime panel are dated earlier, but they are identical to the current ones. If we change anything in a workshop, I will update that workshop on the lifetime subscription panel.

If you have taken less than five workshops, you can just buy it directly on Teachable for $3,000. (Right now about $11,000 in value of workshops.) If you have taken over five workshops, the cost is $2,500 through Paypal and you need to write me. If you have taken ten workshops, the price is $2,000 and you need to write me.

We have nine different new workshops scheduled coming up this year. Going to be great fun.

Plus you get Heinlein’s Rules lecture, worth $75.00. Plus Steven Barnes offers a course as well.

This is a stunner of a writing bundle. And for a stunningly cheap price. And it ends in less than 48 hours. Don’t miss it.

Special Vegas Workshop Deal

We are about to end the special deal we were offering. A couple more days is all.  Write me if interested. The deal is if you pay for four Vegas workshops (that you can take at any time over the next four years), you get a free Dean and Kris show or two free online workshops. ($600 value.) And yes, if you have already paid for one, it counts as one of the four.

Crazy question that just popped up off the top of my head…

Do you ever talk with your creative voice and give it some kind of specs for what you want accomplish? Or do you just give it free reign and let it do whatever it wants.

I realize that probably doesn’t make much sense so let me clarify. Sometimes people talk about having their vision boards.

They specify what kind of car they want, where they want to go and dream vacation, or the type a house they want because they say the more specific you are the better your chances of achieving it.

So do you ever try to guide your creative voice to help you accomplish something that you really wanted? And if so did it work or did it take you off where it wanted to go on it’s own?

Dave, nope. I decide what I want to practice, something I have learned something new on lately, put that in my mind, then just let the creative voice do what it wants to do. Turns out the creative voice is often challenge by the practice and has fun with it, but I never force it.

One note here. I am 67 years old and have well over two hundred novels to my credit. If I can’t have fun, my attitude is that life is too short to bother. So I have fun. Thankfully, people like and buy what I have fun with.

Great outlook, Dean! I think everyone should have that perspective. Why do things you don’t enjoy…and thanks for taking the time to answer the question.

In case anyone reads this and is wondering about the pop-up workshops, the one on fear, the indie game one, and the making a living workshop are all fantastic and definitely worth taking. The numbers you get to run in the indie game workshop will have you thinking about the production side of writing like you’ve never done before, while the making a living workshop will help you concretise exactly what your own goals are and what you’ll need to do to achieve them. And of course, the fear pop-up will help you combat the issues you might have working on those goals 😉

Definitely worthwhile, if you have the time and money when the pop-ups are rescheduled.
