Only a Couple of Flickers

At Least So Far…

Winds are howling, but not bad for a coast storm. We are getting hit with about 70 mph gusts here. We are used to this.

A much, much smaller storm hit the first day of the Master Business Class as people were trying to get here. People who never been in a coast storm found that one to be a worry. That had gusts around 40 and less rain than this one. We have about five or six at this level a year. When they start warning of gusts over a hundred is when we pay attention. (grin)

And just to give a summary before I detail out the day, I got my 10,000 steps done and I wrote a short story. Third in three days.

And I got all the December workshops ready to go on Teachable.com.

My Day Went Like This…

Made it to the writer’s lunch at 2 p.m. at the WMG offices, stayed until a little after 3 p.m. and then headed to our bookstore. I spent the next two hours there, working in the back room, trying to clear out what I could. I have almost managed to clear one corner and have been finding all sorts of treasures.

Then I went back to the WMG offices to work on workshop stuff, mostly moving videos there. As they loaded, I moved shelves in the north store because we are in the process of turning one back area of the store into another office.

So I would get some videos moving to Teachable, then go get a shelf off a wall, then load up more videos, then get another shelf, all the while going the long way around to get steps. So not only did I get 10,000 steps today, I did a lot of lifting and moving of stuff.

Home by 7:30 p.m. after grocery shopping. I cooked dinner and took a nap.

Back up at the WMG offices by 9:30 and worked there doing the same things I did earlier until midnight.

Back home to do email and then watch some television. So I didn’t get to my writing computer until 2:30 a.m.

Saw a half-title I thought would be a good full title. “That Human Fear.”

Typed it in and started a third Cold Poker Gang short mystery story.

At 3:30 a.m. I took a break at 1,000 words. Got back to writing at 4 a.m. and finished the 1,700 word story by 4:30 a.m.

Lights only flickered once the entire time.

So far, here is the November Short Story Challenge. (10th through 30th.. I will have covers in a few days as well.)

1… Under the Skin of Death… 4,400 words…. Total words so far… 4,400 words.
2… Half a Clue… 3,700 words… Total words so far… 8,100 words
3… That Human Fear… 1,700 words… Total words so far… 9,800

So total writing time today… 2 hours.
Total work time… 8 hours.

Looking forward to more Cold Poker Gang stories and novels, Dean. I’m still convinced these would make an incredible TV show.

You mention half title yesterday and again today. What do you mean by that? is it covered in one of your courses or books?

Nope, I just go to fiction magazines in my collection and write down half titles from stories. I go all the way back into the forties and as late as 2000. I make these pages of lists of half-titles. I then usually smash two half titles together to get a title and use that as a trigger to start writing. But sometimes only a half title is a good title, as it was last night.
