Something Extra For Writers

Later Today I Will Be Adding Something to the Kickstarter

As some of you know, we are doing a Kickstarter for North by Northwest Books. And one of the main reasons for the Kickstarter is to help indie writers.

Now, I know there are web sites out there that believe that bookstores are a thing of the past, but the facts show otherwise in the last few years. In fact, bookstores (except the chains) have learned how to adapt and are doing great. The ones that don’t learn are the ones you hear about going down.

One thing bookstores need is an easy system to accept indie author and indie publisher books. A way that would be beneficial for both parties. We think we have that system and will be setting it up after the Kickstarter is finished. So stay tuned here for information on that.

But Here Is What Will Be Added

Also in the Kickstarter, we are offering as a reward a way for someone to donate books to their local library or school system. The staff at WMG and North by Northwest Books will work with each picked library or school system to try to get them the books they need.

So since we will be mailing packages to libraries and school systems, we decided it would be a good idea to make a nifty flyer with every writer’s name who supported this Kickstarter and send it along.

The writer can support the Kickstarter with any reward, from workshops to bags or boxes of books or library donations. Doesn’t matter. If the writer supported this North by Northwest Bookstore kickstarter in any way, we will put the writer’s name and web site information on a flyer for the libraries or schools to see.

So the library or school gets free books and a list of writers who supported the bookstore that got them the free books. Just got a hunch that might get the writer’s some attention.

No extra charge for this. No reward for this. Just something extra we are adding in.

So The Basic Information Again

The reason we are doing this is to expand the store into four unused rooms. But wow do those rooms need work. We are planning to do it no matter what, but the Kickstarter will speed up the process a whole bunch.

And in the expanding, we will be starting up a system where indie writers and publishers can get their books into our store. (Right now we don’t have much room.) We want to focus a lot on indie books and hand-sell them. After all, the bookstore is owned by writers and run by writers.

And yeah, we know, the belief is that bookstores are dying. Nope. The bookstores that are dying are the ones run by people stuck in the old systems. North by Northwest Books has been profitable almost from day one since we bought it. We are selling books around the world through ABE, eBay, and Amazon. And shortly will have our own sales web site.

Modern bookstores carrying new and used and selling wide are doing great. And we don’t even care if you drop by and showcase our books and buy online. All we care about is helping customers find the book they want when they want it.

Here is our slogan on tee-shirts and book bags and such:

Buy Paper Books… Give Bookmarks Something To Do.

Here are some of the nifty rewards…

— You can give certificates to your local library or school for books and North by Northwest Books will work with the library or school to make sure they get the right books for their needs.

— You can buy a mystery box of either science fiction, mystery, or comics. Your choice.

— Discounts on lectures and workshops. You can get multiple of these if you want.

— Every major WMG book for 2018.

— A nifty book bag or a book bag full of books.

— A gift certificate in the store if you or someone you know is coming to the Oregon Coast.

And with every award you get the most recent volume of Fiction River.

So take a look and at least watch the crazy video. And see what our bookstore on the Oregon Coast looks like inside. It’s nifty, I promise.

Now that is totally cool. I like it! In fact, I liked it so much that I kicked in $15 for the book bag reward. The logo is awesome, so I think the book bag will be fun to have.

But it’s really my name on that flyer that I’m angling for. 😉

And you will get it. We got some other fun stuff coming up over the life of this Kickstarter as well. Thanks for the support.
