Challenge,  On Writing,  publishing

Starting Tomorrow Night

Spent the Night Cleaning Up Stuff…

We all know how that goes to get ready to write after a while away. Got all the March workshops started up, all assignments done, my brain back over on the book I hadn’t done much with since before the Anthology workshop, actually a week or more ahead of that because of all the reading.

So tomorrow night I will start tracking the writing. It will be a slow start I am sure.

I can warn you all right now, this will not be the easy, smooth process I sometimes make things look like here. First off, I have a huge orange cat that has decided that this time of the night my writing chair is his.

Second, I have a ton of stuff, including trips coming up, but going to write through it all when I have time and detail it all out. As I said last night, I have to be nuts to even think of writing through the next two months, but if I don’t, I won’t hit my 67 challenge.

So going to give it a try and you folks can follow along as well to see how well, or not so well, I handle life events. Might be a learning experience or at least a chuckle or two.

Secrets Workshops…

They are webinar workshops, with a combination of recorded videos and a weekly in-person session webinar. Four weeks long.

Some folks don’t like the series title, but I kind of do because, to be honest, there will be a lot of focus on things most writers don’t know.

So here are a few of the workshops we are pretty solid on in this series. We are open to other suggestions. (Not taking sign-ups yet.)

— Secrets of Selling Short Fiction in 2018/2019
— Secrets of Writing Successful Space Opera
— Secrets of Writing Serial Fiction (Raddish)
— Secrets of Writing Detective Fiction.

        Dean,

Are you mentioning Radish because you believe this kind of fiction delivery will become more popular in the future or have you seen the Radish contract and believe it’s worth applying for?

        • dwsmith

Not a clue about the place to be honest. Just talking about the structure of a story that would require. Easier to understand than saying “serial” which most don’t have a clue what that might be. (grin)

I haven’t seen the contract yet, but I applied. If they accept (and you accept the contract) they run your story in approximately 2000 word increments. I see it as just one more possible avenue of income and one more way to get my stories to a new readership.

      Linda,

It will have five or six recorded videos per week, plus an assignment, then the four live webinar chats, one per week, to answer questions and such after everyone has had time to go through the videos and assignments. So the price would be the same as a regular workshop at $300.

We will limit it to 10 writers plus the Lifetime Subscribers. Lifetime Subscribers get in if they want no matter what.

And we are thinking these may only be a one time thing per workshop. I just can’t see myself doing this month after month. Or maybe twice a year is all.

And we have a new name for the series… Insider’s Guide to…

  • D S Butler

Have you written any legal thrillers, Dean? I would love a workshop or a Secrets workshop focusing on them.

    • dwsmith

I have not written a legal thriller. Kris loves them, but has not written one either. I am sure at a basic level we would be able to teach one on the topic, but not a full workshop because honestly, if we don’t write and sell it, we don’t like to think we know what we are doing and teach it. So basic level in another workshop, for a video or so, sure. I know that much, but without ever writing one, I wouldn’t feel comfortable teaching it.

Looking forward to following your writing progress Dean. I just finished my 30 Day Novel Writing Challenge on day 25 …. looking for a new challenge now for the next one 🙂

Wow, nice, Rob. Stay tuned. I am not trying anything fancy at the moment, just ramping back up.
